The word 'digital' underwent a semantic shift: it means literally 'numerical', but it got the meaning 'related to the new media technologies' in the Kress report ( 'Transitioning to a Digital World - Art History, Its Research Centers, and Digital Scholarship' by Diane M. Zorich, June 1, 2012) http://www.kressfoundation.org/news/Article.aspx?id=35338 The word 'cybernetic' is utterly more meaningful than 'digital'. See my post of August 3, 2012 "Cybernetics and art history: an odd relation? " http://kbender.blogspot.be/2012/08/cybernetics-and-art-history-odd-relation.html?view=magazine

DH is still a floating notion but it's key lies in the improvement of knowledge through the application of relevant and exciting IT-methods for the humanities

Digital Humanities encompasses any of a multitude of approaches to research and scholarship in the arts and humanities that address and embrace the empowering societal shifts afforded by technology. Digital Humanities is about open communication, collaboration and expression. DH is about discovery, sharing and shedding light on the human experience and ultimately our own interconnectedness.
